The Bears showed some scary offensive potential in Week 5 as they pressured the Panthers

The Chicago Bears finally made an easy game look easy. On Sunday we beat the Carolina Panthers 36-10.

After the Bears’ disappointing loss to the Colts two weeks ago, everyone was hoping for a performance like this. Here are three takeaways from their dominant win against the Panthers.

The Bears’ struggles on offense in the first month of the season have been well documented. While every aspect of the unit needs to be better, what would help the most is increasing the number of “explosive plays” it creates (a 10-yard run or a 20-yard pass).

Entering this week, the Bears offense had a total of 12 explosive plays, six runs and six passes.

The Bears’ lack of explosive plays in the first month of the season massively hurt their ability to move the ball downfield. That’s why the Bears needed to improve their explosive plays in October.

This is already a great start after the Bears made five explosive plays against the Panthers. DJ Moore, D’Andre Swift and Cole Kmet all had at least one explosive performance.

Moore finished his day with two catches for 20 yards and both plays resulted in touchdowns. Swift had an explosive run and an explosive catch. Swift completed a 42-yard screen pass that ended with him being tackled at the 2-yard line.

Swift’s explosive run gained 18 yards. Kmet had a 26-yard catch in the fourth quarter that might have been good for a touchdown if Caleb Williams had hit him with flying colors.

While it’s exciting to see the Bears finally make some explosive plays, the Panthers’ defense is the worst in the NFL, so it’s not shocking. The Bears offense needs to continue the great success they had against the Panthers moving forward in order to have a sustainable offense.
