Sedgwick County is training poll workers and encouraging them to do more before Election Day

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – With Election Day still four weeks away, the Sedgwick County Election Office is in the process of training new poll workers and encouraging more poll workers to come forward.

“We train [300 to 400] Poll workers for the November 5 election,” said Sedgwick County Chief Deputy Election Commissioner Brad Beets.

It takes about four hours of training before someone is qualified to help at the polls on Election Day. Beets discussed the meaning of work and what it entails.

“So we’ll be working on check-in, having a chance to work on the machines and make sure we’re doing everything well,” Beets said.

With early voting training, Beets encourages more people to get involved.

“We always need people. “We will have people canceling at the last minute,” he said. “In one class we had 35 new poll workers, which is always exciting. Since some of our employees are getting older, we welcome everyone who is interested.”

The Sedgwick County Elections Office said it will try to organize a training course as soon as possible for those who want to vote on Election Day.
