UPDATE: Officer-involved shooting leaves one dead and one injured; The death is being investigated as a homicide

UPDATE at 1:30 p.m. CST on October 7, 2024: The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the suspect who died in an officer-involved shooting on Milwaukee’s northwest side was struck by officer-involved gunfire . The coroner said they are investigating the death as a homicide.

No further details have been released at this point in the investigation, but authorities confirmed that bodycam footage will be released in accordance with their standard procedure.

MILWAUKEE – One person is dead and another is critically injured following an officer-involved shooting on Milwaukee’s northwest side, according to Milwaukee police.

The incident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. near 68th and Capitol on Milwaukee’s northwest side. When officers arrived, three victims fled the home from the second floor porch. A 33-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The suspect then came onto the second floor porch armed with a gun. The officers ordered him to drop the weapon, but he refused. An officer shot the suspect, then he retreated inside.

Milwaukee Police tactical teams attempted to communicate with the suspect from outside and eventually entered the home when he was unresponsive. They found the 33-year-old male suspect dead from a gunshot wound, his gun lying nearby. The original gunshot wound is currently being examined. No one was injured in the shooting.

The officer who shot is a 28-year-old man who has been with the police force for three years. He will be placed on administrative leave per department protocol.
