‘Art Detectives’: What you should know about Acorn TV’s newest show

Art Detectives is a gripping new original crime series following the Heritage Crime Unit, a police agency consisting of art-loving DI Mick Palmer and no-nonsense DC Shazia Malik. Together they solve murders related to the world of art and antiques, from old master paintings to Banksy street art, medieval manuscripts and collectible vinyl.

Over the course of the season, the sharp detectives come across a fake Vermeer, Viking gold, a rare Chinese vase and items salvaged from the Titanic. It’s a rich, colorful world driven by greed, obsession, lust and revenge. Mick tackles these challenging cases while navigating a budding romance with museum curator Rosa and the sudden reappearance of his charismatic father Ron, who happens to be one of Britain’s most notorious forgers.

Moyer plays lead DI Mick Palmer; He is joined by a core cast that also includes relative newcomers Nina Singh (Chemistry of death) as supporting actress DC Shazia Malik, Sarah Alexander (coupling) as love interest Rosa, and Larry Lamb (Gavin & Stacey), as dear old blacksmith dad Ron. Guest stars for the first season of the new show will be announced in due course.

In the press release, Moyer said, “I’m thrilled to bring the quirky Mick Palmer to life in this wonderfully creative detective series.” The writing team at Art Detectives has done a great job bringing exciting storylines, remarkable artwork and a bit of history intertwined.”

The series was conceived by Dan GasteR, Will IngAnd Paul Powell from Black Dog Television who wrote it together with Emma Goodwin And Kitty Percy. Directors Declan O’Dwyer And Jennie Paddon Division of directing duties across the six-episode series, with Candida Julian Jones produce. Moyer is an executive producer for Black Dog Television along with Gaster, Ing and Powell; Catherine Mackin & Bea Tammer for Acorn TV/Acorn Media Enterprises; And Daniel March & Klaus Zimmermann for dynamic television.

Art detectives is currently produced in Belfast and the surrounding Northern Ireland countryside. Acorn TV has scheduled the new series to premiere in 2025.
