Browns QB Deshaun Watson’s recent sexual assault lawsuit has been settled

Browns QB Deshaun Watson’s recent sexual assault lawsuit has been settled

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The recent lawsuit against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has been settled.

According to the attorney representing Jane Doe, the claim is resolved and the settlement is confidential.

The allegations of sexual assault resurfaced in early September.

Watson “strongly denied” the sexual assault allegations in the September lawsuit, his attorney released in a statement.

The lawsuit was filed on September 9 in Harris County, Texas by a Jane Doe.

In the lawsuit, Jane Doe claimed she and Watson met at a bar in Houston in July 2020.

At the bar, Doe exchanged phone numbers with Watson and the pair texted for several months.

In October 2020, Watson texted Doe about meeting at a Houston mall, which she declined because she didn’t want the publicity, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit said Doe invited Watson to her apartment for dinner instead.

According to the lawsuit, the couple met at their apartment on October 10, 2020. Doe said that before Watson entered the apartment, he described her as “aggressively yelling and screaming.”

Doe said Watson couldn’t find her apartment and that he “didn’t have time to do it,” the lawsuit says.

Then Watson found the apartment and Doe invited him to sit in her living room while she finished preparing.

The lawsuit said Doe tried to talk to Watson, but he didn’t respond.

Jane Doe then left the bathroom to check on Watson and found him naked on her bed, lying face down, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit said Watson insisted that Doe give him a massage while pointing to his buttocks.

Court documents said Watson then turned around and demanded she massage his groin.

The lawsuit alleged that when Doe wouldn’t massage the spot he preferred, Watson sexually assaulted her.

The lawsuit says Doe then got away from Watson and yelled at him to get out of her apartment, which he did “angrily.”

At the time of the attack, Watson was the Houston Texans’ quarterback.

When asked why Doe didn’t come forward, the lawsuit previously said:

Doe is seeking $1 million in damages for sexual assault and battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

“Watson intentionally, knowingly and willfully committed this conduct,” the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit also calls for a jury trial.

Watson has denied any wrongdoing since arriving in Cleveland, including during his inaugural press conference in March 2022.

Several grand juries previously declined to indict Watson on criminal charges following the lawsuits. Watson served an 11-game suspension two seasons ago and was fined $5 million.

According to a previous report from The New York Times’ Jenny Vrentas, the QB met with “at least” 66 different women between 2019 and 2021, including the 24 women who filed lawsuits against him. Watson has since settled a majority of those lawsuits.

19 News has reached out to Watson’s attorneys and the Cleveland Browns for comment on the new lawsuit but has not yet heard back.
