9 dead after Helene in Yancey County, officials say

YANCEY COUNTY, NC (FOX Carolina) – The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office said nine bodies have been recovered following Helene’s death.

Officials said recovery teams believe five people are still missing.

“Our thoughts are with the families affected by this devastating loss. Local law enforcement, federal agencies and volunteers are working diligently to separate the families. We are aware that there are many rumors and our priority is to provide you with accurate and factual information. We thank the community for their continued support during this difficult time.
