Jamie Foxx talks about health problems in a stand-up show

Jamie Foxx made his long-awaited return to standup comedy over the weekend in Atlanta, where he discussed his medical emergency in 2023.

The humorous but emotional one-man show was filmed for a Netflix special called What Had Happened Was.

“It was an excruciating time opening those wounds every day,” Foxx told CBS Mornings host Gayle King, referring to the mysterious illness that landed him in the hospital last April as material for the series with three programs.

“It was unbearable because worry is what excites you. Yes, we have a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they’re laughing at or not laughing at,” Foxx said.

“It’s a personal journey and I hope I never have to go through this again. My next jokes start with ‘Knock, knock!'”

Foxx previously announced the show in an Instagram post, revealing few details about the engagement but promising an evening “full of humor, heart and inspiration.”

King witnessed the recording and said she had never seen a show where the audience laughed and cried at the same time. “Only you could have done this,” she told him.

King’s clip ends with Foxx toasting his loved ones and saying, “Let’s sit back, watch this and build towards a new, better, healthier future.”

Details regarding the streaming release of the special are yet to be announced.
