Kolkata: Two people have been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a woman and making her invest Rs 60 lakh by promising her a lead role in a film visual production. The incident was reported from Gobra Kabristan.
Twelve people were named in the sexual abuse and fraud complaint lodged with the Beniapukur police, five of whom are men. The arrested duo have been identified as Dipen Naskar and Prasun Sinha. The two are relatives, police said. The accused were remanded in police custody after being produced before the Sealdah court. According to police, Sinha, a resident of Murshidabad, was running a fake business in Beniapukur.
Police said the events began in August when the woman came across an advertisement for auditions for a major production house and contacted the accused. She alleged that the sexual abuse took place in September, with the defendant touching her private parts in the presence of others at one of the defendants’ house.
Police said there are some gray areas they want answers to. “While she said it took her some time to get over the shock before coming to us, she said in her complaint that the abuse took place when her family members were nearby. We therefore determine the exact circumstances of the crime and speak to her family members. We also check whether the woman has undergone a medical test, which is crucial evidence in such cases. We will appeal in court to try to get the woman’s statement recorded in court,” an official said.
