Last day for Georgians to register to vote in the 2024 presidential election

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Monday is the last day Georgia voters can register for the upcoming November election.

There are big races before voters on November 5th – school boards, district attorneys, state House and Senate, and of course, president of the United States.

In-person registration ends at 5:00 p.m., but online registration is still possible until midnight. If you need to verify your registration or register, visit the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter page here.

New Georgia Project Deputy Field Director Sean Mims said he has seen great enthusiasm from the more than 55,000 voters he has helped register for the upcoming election.

“There’s been a lot of talk about the economy, about reproductive justice and immigration, so people have something to say and this is our way of making them heard,” Mims said. “Elections have consequences and the more people involved, the better the outcome.”

On Monday, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Hurricane Helene would have no impact on polling places in Georgia starting in November. The storm hampered advertisers’ efforts to hit the streets at their normal frequency as they faced impassable roads and internet outages that impacted registrations.

“We probably missed about 2,000 people that we normally should have reached,” Mims said.

Registration is relatively straightforward, but you will need a copy of your driver’s license and social security number.

“It is a necessary effort, however,” Mims said. “The shape can be a bit complicated. It can be a bit tedious, but it’s important.”

As for other important upcoming deadlines, early in-person voting begins October 15th and the deadline for all registered voters to request an absentee ballot is October 25th.
