Gillette man accused of stabbing woman…

A Gillette, Wyoming, man is in jail after police say he repeatedly stabbed a 30-year-old woman in the torso and arms before eluding police for a day.

John Stetson Bosh, 31, appeared in Gillette Circuit Court Monday afternoon for his bond hearing. A judge ordered him held on a $750,000 cash or surety bond.

He addressed the judge respectfully in a hushed, lethargic tone.

Bosh told the court he had been convicted of aggravated assault, a felony, about five years earlier.

When it was his turn to run down Bosh’s criminal history, Campbell County Prosecutor Nathan Henkes said the crime was actually a 2018 conviction for strangulation of a household member – which carries the same potential prison sentence of 10 years like the aggravated assault charge in Wyoming.

Bosh also failed to appear in court several times as planned, Henkes said.

Henkes asked District Court Judge Lynda Bush to set Bosh’s bond at $750,000 cash or commercial surety – a high bond that police said was intended to reflect that Bosh fled the scene Friday. The bail request is also based on the violence of the crimes he is accused of and his criminal record, Henkes said.

Henkes listed other previous charges, including two counts of drunk driving, criminal damage and unlawful conduct.

“Given the severity and the danger to the individual or the community at large, the state would call this great,” Henkes said. “So much so that law enforcement actually sent out a bulletin to the general public in hopes of locating the defendant.”

The city of Gillette sent out an alert Friday afternoon that Gillette police were looking for Bosh. Bosh, who is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 195 pounds, was expected to be riding a black 2023 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Police responded to the 900 block of West Eighth Street in Gillette in the early morning hours of Oct. 4 and found a 30-year-old woman had been stabbed repeatedly in the torso and arms, according to the city statement says.

Emergency responders took the woman to Campbell County Health. Bosh fled the scene before officers arrived but was identified as a suspect, the statement said.

Police arrested Bosh at 10 a.m. Saturday, according to an updated statement.

Bosh turned himself in, according to his own court testimony – a fact he noted when Judge Bush asked if he had a counterpoint to Henkes’ bail request.

“I have concerns that you are a danger to the community and I have concerns that you are a flight risk,” Bush said.

She complied with Henkes’ bond request, which contained additional provisions. Bosh is not allowed to have contact with a witness or be near his alleged victim. He will not be allowed to drink alcohol and will be allowed to wear a GPS ankle monitor if he is released.

Bosh did not have an attorney Monday afternoon but told the court he would likely hire one.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 15.
