Police allegedly discover teacher sexually abusing boy in house under construction

A Texas teacher has been arrested after authorities say she had “sexual contact” with a student at a home under construction.

According to a Facebook statement from the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, Jennifer Massey, 51, is charged with inappropriate teacher-student relationship, a second-degree felony.

Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a location in Garden Ridge at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 3, following a report of a suspicious person at a home under construction.

Officers allegedly discovered Massey, an art teacher at Davenport High School, along with an underage boy on the property.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the two people engaged in sexual contact,” the statement said.

Massey was placed on administrative leave on Friday, Oct. 4, Davenport High School Principal Angela Looney said in a message to parents obtained by PEOPLE.

“The safety of our students is our top priority and a responsibility we take seriously,” Looney said. “During the hiring process, the district’s human resources department conducts extensive background and criminal history checks to ensure classrooms are led by individuals who have the well-being of each student at heart.”

The Comal Independent School District said in a statement to PEOPLE: “The district does not tolerate inappropriate relationships between teachers and students. Ensuring the safety of our students is our top priority. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement during their investigation.”

Massey is currently being held in the Comal County Jail and the bond amount has not been set, the sheriff’s office said.
