Attack on David Paterson: Two more suspects are handcuffed for beating the former governor and his stepson on the Upper East Side

Police said Monday that two more suspects were arrested for allegedly attacking former Gov. David Paterson and his stepson on the Upper East Side Friday evening.

Trevor Nurse, 40, and Diamond Minter, 35, were taken into custody over the brutal October 4 attack, which left Paterson, 70, and his stepson – Anthony Sliwa, 20 – hospitalized for treatment of their injuries.

Nurse and Minter were picked up less than 48 hours after police charged two boys, ages 12 and 13, in connection with the attack. Her identity has not been revealed due to her age. Another suspect in the case remains on the run.

Investigators escorted the two adult suspects out of the building 23rd district Stationhouse on October 7th. When amNewYork Metro asked about the motive, Nurse said: “He attacked me. Look me in the eye. He hit me. I defended myself.” However, he did not specify whether it was Paterson or Sliwa who allegedly “attacked” him.

According to police, the attack occurred around 8:35 p.m. on Oct. 4 outside a McDonald’s restaurant at 1871 2nd Ave., about a block from the Paterson residence.

Police reported that the group engaged the former governor and his stepson in a verbal argument. According to WABC-TV, the group members and Sliwa – a son of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa – were known to each other and had already met.

The words quickly turned violent, cops said, as the group went on the attack, punching Paterson and Anthony Sliwa multiple times in the face and body. After the crackdown, the group fled south on 2nd Avenue on foot.

Paterson suffered injuries to his head and face, while Sliwa suffered facial injuries, authorities said. EMS took both to Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment, where they were in stable condition.

Paterson, a former state senator who was elected lieutenant governor in 2006, was named New York’s chief executive two years later following the resignation of scandal-plagued Gov. Eliot Spitzer. Paterson, who is also visually impaired, became the first African-American governor of New York and served the remainder of Spitzer’s term before replacing Andrew Cuomo.

After the attack, the NYPD released images of the five suspects wanted for the attack on the former governor and his stepson. Police did not provide any information about which of the photographed suspects was arrested.
