Burnet Church security guard is a ‘hero’ after scaring off potential suspects

Local, state and federal authorities in Burnet County are investigating after shots were fired by a volunteer security officer at Epicenter Church.

No one was injured in the incident, but police are now asking for help finding two possibly armed and dangerous suspects.

A member of the Burnet community is shocked to hear about the potential threat.

Rolando Rodriguez says “something like that” doesn’t happen in Burnet. Rodriguez has spent much of his life in the city – including retiring two years ago. He says it’s a good place to live.

“It’s slow, the way I like it. Everyone is nice,” he says.

He says he has never seen any problems in the area, so it was “very concerning” to hear what happened at Epicenter Church on Sunday. He says, “It was just outside my neighborhood.”

According to the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to the church on N US 281 this morning to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, they said they learned a member of the volunteer security team had fired shots.

The sheriff’s office said the security team member confronted two male suspects outside the church, one of whom was carrying a rifle. According to the sheriff’s office, the security team member fired several shots, causing the suspects to flee.

Rodriguez calls this volunteer a hero.

“I mean, what would have happened if the security guard hadn’t been there? It could have been bad for everyone in the church,” he said.

Rodriguez says he just wants to know her motive and “Will it happen again?” What are you doing?”

The suspects fled in a white minivan and police are now searching for the two men. They are considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to contact the authorities.
