The NY Jets provide an encouraging update on Aaron Rodgers’ injury after another scare

NY Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has had to take a beating over the last two weeks. The Jets’ offensive line has allowed a whopping 34 total pressures in the last two games while failing to protect their star quarterback.

For this reason, it should come as no surprise that Rodgers has now appeared on the injury list with two different injuries in recent weeks. His most recent ailment is an ankle injury suffered in the Jets’ Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Rodgers told reporters after the game that he suffered a sprained ankle and that he didn’t seem concerned about it at the time. Jets head coach Robert Saleh gave a similar update while speaking to the media on Monday.

Saleh confirmed that Rodgers is dealing with a lower ankle sprain and stressed that preliminary tests have shown he will be available to play next Monday when the Jets take on the Buffalo Bills. Rodgers isn’t expected to miss any time.

Jets fans understandably feared the worst when Rodgers was essentially folded in half due to an incomplete pass in the third quarter of Sunday’s game.

Rodgers first grabbed him by the back of his left leg before leaving the field in sneakers and heading to the blue medical tent. But before he reached the marquee, a special teams penalty against the Vikings extended the Jets’ drive and prompted Rodgers to immediately return to the field.

He led the Jets on a 17-play scoring drive, capped by a Greg Zuerlein field goal, cutting the Vikings’ lead to seven points. Rodgers was eventually checked out by trainers before returning without missing a play.

Rodgers admitted he was “definitely banged up” after the game, but the injury doesn’t appear to mean he will ever be sidelined. The four-time MVP entered the game with a knee injury suffered the week before against the Denver Broncos.

The Jets took extra precautions this weekend, easing Adrian Martinez from the practice squad to serve as the third quarterback behind Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor. It will be interesting to see if they do the same against the Bills next week.

It’s worth keeping an eye on Rodgers’ status as the week progresses, as his training availability will provide further details on the severity of his injury. For now, though, Jets fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Rodgers should be fine.
