Shot fired during call at Prince George’s apartment leads to officer’s suspension: PGPD

A shot fired inside an evacuated apartment in Prince George’s County on Sunday evening led to the arrest of a suspect and an internal investigation of one of their officers, according to Prince George’s County police.

Police said they were called to the Surrey Square Apartments in the 6000 block of Surrey Square Lane around 8:20 p.m. after learning of a man in an apartment who was making residents feel unsafe.

According to Major Harkirat Singh, commander of the Prince George’s County Police Department’s 8th Division, residents told officers at the scene that the man may have had a weapon, prompting police to evacuate the apartment as a precaution.

At some point as officers confronted the person, an officer fired a shot but did not hit anyone, Major Singh said.

The person was arrested shortly afterward and the officer was suspended in accordance with police department policy, officials said.

It is not clear why the shot was fired and Major Singh said the cause was under investigation.
