LOCAL NEWS

As of January 1, 2023, the city is Tallahassee has relocated over 650 homeless people – who have no connection to Tallahassee – to locations outside of Leon County.

As Tropical Storm Milton continues to strengthenGov. Ron Desantis expanded the state of emergency to 51 counties, including several in the Big Bend. Taylor, Madison, Suwannee, Hamilton, Lafayette and Levy counties have now been included in the governor’s declaration.

FLORIDA NEWS

Hurricane Milton is forecast land in Florida on Wednesday, prompting evacuation orders for millions of residents. Of the state’s 67 counties, 51 are under a state of emergency, and Tampa Bay is bracing for what could be its worst hurricane in more than a century.

A new report predicts Florida’s explosive growth will slow down over the next five years. The second quarter report from nonprofit Florida TaxWatch and the Regional Economic Consulting Group said employers will have more difficulty filling job openings due to slower population growth (net immigration has declined from 868 new residents per day to 801).

According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, Israel’s subsequent war in Gaza has killed over 41,900 people.
