Jabrill Peppers, a starting safety and team captain for the Patriots, was arrested Saturday in Braintree and faces multiple charges, according to police.

News of the arrest spread early Monday. Peppers, 29, is reportedly facing charges of assault, strangulation and drug possession following an altercation. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

Specifically, police said – according to multiple reports – they responded to a call at a residential address reporting an altercation between two people. Following an investigation, Peppers was arrested and is reportedly charged with assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and possession of a Class B substance.

According to police, the victim was reportedly treated at the scene by emergency medical services.

On Monday, the Patriots released a short statement after the news broke:

“We are aware of the incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend, which police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Peppers, who was voted team captain by Patriots players before the start of the 2024 season, did not play in Sunday’s 15-10 loss to the Dolphins at Gillette Stadium because the team cited a shoulder injury.

He signed with the Patriots in 2022 (he was originally a first-round pick of the Browns in 2017 out of the University of Michigan).

In early 2024, Peppers signed a contract extension with the Patriots for a total of three years and worth $24 million. New England head coach Jerod Mayo praised him for his hiring after the extension was announced.

“I am very happy for Peppers and his family, but also for our team and our organization,” Mayo said in July. “He really embodies everything we want on the field. He is very selfless. He’s out there flying around all the time.”
