‘The Simpsons’ showrunner explains why the series is good at predicting future events

The Simpsons Showrunner Matt Selman explained why the show is very good at predicting the future.

The animated series famously foreshadowed several major events over its run, most notably Donald Trump’s presidency, Disney’s acquisition of Fox, and iPhone autocorrect – just to name a few.

Asked by People As for why the series was great at making predictions like that, Selman responded, “Well, the lousy answer that I always give and that no one likes is that if you study history and math, it would be literally impossible for us not to predict things.

“If you say enough things, some of them overlap with reality, and that’s the mathematical element.

“And then the history element is, if you make a show based on examining humanity’s past stupidities, you will certainly foreshadow humanity’s future stupidity as it descends further into the stupidity mass.” So we don’t really think about it.”

However, he stressed that the list of things is “totally unregulated” and that the authors “hate” it when fans “post obviously fake images online and say we predicted things we didn’t.”

“It was nicer if the predictions were just predicting real terrible events and not people acting like we predicted terrible events,” Selman added, acknowledging that it’s “very depressing and disheartening that people want it so badly that the magic is true, that they just start making up predictions that they never aired.

In others Simpsons News, the show recently featured a parody of The White Lotus‘ Opening of an episode in which the family travels to the “Yellow Lotus” and “encounters death while vacationing at a luxury resort.”

The show’s current 36th season recently kicked off with a fake “series finale” that saw the return of Conan O’Brien – who wrote some of the show’s most famous episodes in its early days.

The series has yet to be renewed for a 37th season, amid speculation about the future of the animated series.
