Grand Theft Auto 6 can finish 2024 strong by stealing Red Dead 2’s approach

Grand Theft Auto 6 can finish 2024 strong by stealing Red Dead 2’s approach

Grand Theft Auto 6To no one’s surprise, it’s the most anticipated video game release of 2025. However, there is always speculation GTA 6Rockstar has released little to no official information about the game regarding its possible approach to open-world gameplay, story, and online content, other than what was shown in the short reveal trailer from last December.

As the end of 2024 approaches and the exciting, bombastic GTA 6 Although the reveal trailer continues to shrink in the rear view, it’s worth wondering how Rockstar will move forward. It seems unlikely that the studio would let a whole year go by without providing more insight Grand Theft Auto 6but what exactly this next look might look like is unclear. Still, there is a lot of potential in reviving a classic, information-rich marketing tactic from the start Red Dead Redemption 2‘s introduction, as a similar approach could be a perfect fit GTA 6.

Rockstar should create a detailed gameplay breakdown for GTA 6

Red Dead Redemption 2’s final gameplay reveal was a stroke of genius

Unfortunately, there is no shortage of gaming companies that know how to capitalize on audience hype. This can lead to infamous cases like the one that was initially disastrous No man’s sky or the unforgettably broken Cyberpunk 2077but it’s not always a bad thing. In fact, when companies buy into the hype while still being transparent, informative and honest with their marketing, all parties can benefit.

A perfect example of this was in late summer 2018 when Rockstar released a gameplay showcase for Red Dead Redemption 2. While this footage was far from a first look at the game, it did provide a clear, detailed picture of the game’s key mechanics and features, including the shooting and stunningly realistic open-world sandbox. Instead of employing typical marketing tactics like using dramatic music to evoke emotions or promising the moon to audiences wowed by stunning visuals and targeted editing, the presentation is comparatively inoffensive.

In it, a narrator covers the most important aspects of Red Dead Redemption 2and explains his design decisions in an easy-to-understand and informative way. This gave the showcase an upscale tone and conveyed an implicit respect for the potential customer’s time and money. The showcase did a great job of encouraging people to buy the game, but it did this by being informative and inspiring confidence rather than adding to the already massive hype.

How GTA 6 Could Adapt Rockstar’s RDR2 Gameplay Trailer

The detailed gameplay presentation from RDR2 served several purposes, not the least of which was to show how Rockstar utilized the gaming technology of the time. Red Dead Redemption 2 was the studio’s first full release during the 8th generation of consoles, so it was understandably a big step forward from 2013 GTA 5. GTA 6 will not only be Rockstar’s first game of this console generation, but its first Grand Theft Auto Released in over a decade, so the differences between it and GTA 5 will probably be enormous. By giving players a gameplay presentation similar to what it was offered for RDR2Rockstar could highlight these advances in technology and design conventions, particularly as they relate to the GTA Formula and at the same time creates trust within the fan base. There is practically no new information about it GTA 6 So far this year, closing out 2024 with a showcase like this would be a great way to keep the momentum going.
