Donald Trump has “more reasons” to challenge 2024 election results: Adam Schiff

Adam Schiff said former President Donald Trump will have “more reasons” to challenge the 2024 election results than he did in 2020.

“He has more reason to challenge it than he has before, not because of any electoral error, but because Donald Trump believes, and perhaps with good reason, that if he doesn’t succeed at the ballot box, he might succeed.” Jail,” the California Democrat said during an interview on NBC Meet the press on Sunday.

“He will challenge the results, and tragically we saw what happened when he did that four years ago,” Schiff continued. “And more than that. We see him laying the same foundation to fraudulently challenge the results again and spread the same big lies.”

After his loss to President Joe Biden in 2020, Trump repeatedly claimed that he did not lose the election and repeated those claims at a rally in Michigan last week. No credible evidence of widespread voter fraud was found.

Schiff’s comments follow a 165-page filing by special counsel Jack Smith that was released last week by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in the former president’s election fraud case.

Smith’s filing contained a number of allegations, including that Trump asked then-Vice President Mike Pence not to certify the election and that he was “infuriated” when Pence refused. When concerns were raised about Pence’s safety as rioters broke into the Capitol, Trump reportedly wasn’t worried about his vice president.

“That was the most shocking part to me,” said Schiff, who is currently a congressman but is running for Senate.

“It just confirmed, in my opinion, what we know about Donald Trump, which is that he doesn’t care about anyone but himself, he doesn’t care about anything, not the Constitution, not our institutions, not the Capitol, not about his own colleagues, about nothing but himself.” “

Last week, Biden said during a White House news conference that he was confident the upcoming election would be “free and fair,” but said he was concerned about the transfer of power because of Trump’s words and actions following his election could be a peaceful loss in 2020.

“That is the legacy of Donald Trump, namely that we cannot now go into an election with full certainty that the results will be peaceful,” Schiff continued Meet the press.
