19-year-old killed in Boston shooting leaves behind ‘legacy of kindness’

A 19-year-old killed in a shooting at a public housing complex in Jamaica Plain last month was described in his obituary as a “charismatic soul who lit up every room he was in.”

Quami Clarke of Boston was found shot to death outside 277 Center St. on Sept. 23. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Clarke was born in Portland, Maine, and spent most of his life in Jamaica Plain with friends and family, according to his obituary.

Clarke cared deeply about his family and was a “thoughtful friend, student and member of the community.”

Less than two weeks before the shooting, Clarke had received a high school diploma from Excel High School. His teachers and mentors will “forever remember his compassion, resilience and absolutely infectious smile,” Clarke’s family wrote.

“He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and joy that will continue to inspire those who knew him,” the statement said. “Quami was very loved.”

Clarke’s funeral service was held Oct. 4 at Dolan Funeral Home in Dorchester.
