Lorraine Kelly ‘very sorry’ as she announces tragic death of ITV show co-star

Lorraine Kelly told viewers she was “very sorry” as she interrupted the latest edition of the show to announce the death of one of her co-stars.

The presenter returned to the front of her self-titled ITV show on Monday (October 7) as she shared the sad news that a member of her Change + Check choir had died from secondary breast cancer.

The Change + Check campaign was first launched in 2019 and has continued to grow in popularity. One of the most praised elements are the stickers encouraging you to check yourself in changing rooms, which have been distributed in stores such as John Lewis and Partners, ASDA, Warehouse and David Lloyd Gyms.

Last year, to mark the fifth year of the breast screening campaign on ITV’s Lorraine, the Change + Check choir was formed. Singer Joss Stone helped them release their first song, “Golden.”

Heather Sawyer was among the choir members who were sadly diagnosed with terminal stage 4 cancer and died on Saturday (October 5), with her husband announcing the tragic news on social media.

After a commercial break on her show, Lorraine told viewers: “I’m very sorry to share some sad news this morning. One of our amazing singers, Heather Sawyer, has died of secondary breast cancer. Heather was only 50 years old.”, an amazing woman.

She added: “She was such a big part of the choir, she was so passionate about everything. Amazing.” Dr. Hilary Jones, who appeared on the show alongside Lorraine, added: “Wonderful lady. She sang with the choir at the Palladium to celebrate the Change + Check campaign.”

Heather’s husband Lee confirmed her death over the weekend, saying: “This morning, October 5th, just before 1am, Heather lost her battle with cancer, took her final breaths and died peacefully. We know how many people have followed Heather’s journey and how many lives.” She was touched by the sheer volume of messages, voice notes, the deluge of the #hevupsocials hashtag…

“As a family, we would first like to thank each and every one of you wonderful people who have visited, sent well wishes and thought of Heather during this time. This has not gone unnoticed and we will forever be grateful to each and every one of you as you all made it clear to her in her final days how much she was loved.
