The deadline to register to vote in Idaho’s 2024 general election is October 11th. • Idaho Capital Sun

The deadline to register to vote ahead of Idaho’s upcoming Nov. 5 general election is Oct. 11. Voters can also register in person at the polls on election day.

To register in person or online before the Oct. 11 deadline, Idaho voters will need one of the following photo IDs:

  • a current Idaho driver’s license
  • a current US passport
  • a current tribal ID card
  • a current Idaho ID
  • a concealed handgun license issued by a county sheriff in Idaho

Voters must also provide approved proof of residency when registering, such as:

  • one of the above photo IDs with the correct residential address
  • current proof of insurance
  • a trust deed
  • a lease or rental agreement
  • an invoice or receipt for property tax assessment
  • Electricity bill (excluding mobile phone bill)
  • a bank or credit card statement
  • a pay stub or a paycheck
  • a letter from a social welfare office

A voter must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of Idaho for at least 30 days before Election Day. According to the Idaho Department of State, people with a felony conviction are not allowed to register until their sentence is completed.

Voters must update their registration if they have moved, changed their name or have not voted in the last four years.

In Idaho, mail-in ballots can be requested until October 25th and must be returned to your county elections office by November 5th at 8:00 p.m. A voter must first register to vote, then they can request a mail-in ballot at VoteIdaho.gov. This website also contains links to help you find your polling place, view your sample ballot, and find information about how to vote early in your county.

On Election Day in Idaho, polls will be open for in-person voting from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
