In perhaps the longest trailer I’ve ever seen, this Singham again Rohit Shetty’s trailer almost reaches the five-minute mark and misses it by just two seconds. A star-studded affair, Singham again is the fifth film in Shetty’s cop universe, expanding the cast while revisiting old hits and gags. The trailer, released on October 7, seems like a condensed version of the entire film, revealing the main plot, all the hero introduction scenes, and even the climactic fight that serves as the reel Singham againis the “Avengers” moment. To appeal to the franchise’s Hindu fan base, Ramayana is the core theme of Singham again. The references are quite heavy-handed, the main actors are assigned Ramayana characters, the plot is heavily inspired by the epic and even the parallel events to it. This makes us wonder: Why does Nitesh Tiwari even bother? Ramayan with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi?

1. Singham has a teenage son?

Although Ajay Devgn’s Bajirao Singham and Kareena Kapoor’s Avni Kamat were previously together in 2014’s Singham Returns, they are now shown as a married couple and – surprise – they have a teenage son!

2. “Singham Again” becomes “Delhi-6”

Avni is directing a Ramayana play whose moments parallel the plot events of Singham Again. This was an idea we had previously seen from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Delhi-6where the events of Ramlila run parallel to the plot of the film. The Hindu sentiments in Singham again are clearly aimed at appealing to the majority. Or perhaps Rohit Shetty is overcompensating for the right-wing criticism he received over a scene in this film Sooryavanshi where Muslims were shown protecting a Hindu idol? 3. Deepika Padukone as Maa Shakti?

The trailer assigns roles from Ramayana to all the main characters, but Deepika Padukone’s character is unclear. It appears that she is Maa Shakti judging by the tiger insignia on her car as she is seen shooting. But what does Maa Durga do with Lord Ram’s? vanarsena? Is it just me, or does Deepika look awkward trying to deliver punchlines galore?

4. Tiger Shroff as mute Lakshman?

Did you notice that Tiger Shroff’s character has no dialogue in the trailer? Does he play a mute police officer?

5. Akshay Kumar as Garuda, not Jatayu

At first glance, it seemed like Akshay Kumar, who makes an aerial appearance, was the Jatayu of this Ramayana adaptation. Given Jatayu’s fate, we were worried about Sooryavanshi. However, based on online chatter, it seems that Akshay Kumar is playing the protective Garuda opposite Ajay Devgn’s Ram. Which also begs the question…

8. Singham provides the “machine gun” moment

The term “machine gun” is getting tiring. Kaithi done, KGF Chapter 2 did it, Vikram have used it, animal introduced it… and Ajay Devgn even tried it out in his Kaithi new edition, Bholaa. But that didn’t stop Rohit Shetty from giving Devgn another machine gun moment Singham again.

9. Who is Deepika Padukone crying for in this scene?

In one scene, Deepika Padukone’s Shakti Shetty is seen mourning someone before being consoled by Ajay Devgn’s Singham. At first we thought it was Daya, but in the following scene he can be seen in the background. Since there are several burning pyres, we wonder if these are the bodies of policemen killed by Arjun Kapoor’s antagonists at the police station.

10. The tired, repetitive jokes

Ranveer Singh’s lines in the trailer are rehashed jokes Sooryavanshias well as his banter with Akshay Kumar’s character, where he teases him about his country style. And it’s not just the jokes…

11. The “Avengers” moment is also recycled

The scene where all the cops surround a distraught Kareena Kapoor Khan and start shooting is a repeat of a similar scene from Sooryavanshi, only this time there are more cops. As the saying goes, if it works once, try, try again – even at the risk of making the audience fall asleep.
