Conflicting reports about AJ Styles’ injury on WWE SmackDown

A new update on AJ Styles raises concerns.

After a lengthy absence from television, Styles returned on the October 4 episode of SmackDown. At the start of the show, the former world champion was quickly interrupted by Carmelo Hayes, who mocked Styles and said he was past his prime. After being goaded into a match by LA Knight, Hayes vs. Styles was the opening match of the show.

Unfortunately, the game didn’t go as many had hoped as the game was abandoned due to an ankle injury and Hayes won by forfeit. As backstage interviewer Jackie Redmond was later examined by the medical team and left the arena on crutches, she stated on social media that Styles had “suffered a metatarsal ligament sprain,” also known as a Lisfranc injury, and was undergoing further evaluation will undergo. The Phenomenal also noted this update and said that he will keep everyone updated.

What’s the latest from AJ Styles?

Following the injury, two updates were released with different reports on the severity of the injury. As Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported on October 5, Styles is not injured and the spot was planned:

AJ Styles’ injury situation was planned and he is doing well.

However, the following day, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer posted in his daily update that Styles was injured and would be getting an MRI to find out how serious the injury was:

AJ Styles’ injury on Friday was legitimate and not action. He has an MRI done to determine the severity of the disease.

In comments to a previously unpublished interview, AJ Styles gave a concerning health update.
