Armed man shot dead by police in Lorain after chase

LORAIN, Ohio (WOIO) – Lorain police officers shot and killed an armed man after a short chase early Monday morning.

Lorain Police Lt. Jacob Morris said a resident called police at 12:05 a.m. after seeing a man break into a vehicle in the 1300 block of W. 17th St.

The caller added that she believed there was a gun in the man’s hand.

When officers arrived, they said they made contact with the suspect in the driveway, but the suspect fled on foot between the houses.

Lieutenant Morris said the officers saw a gun pointed at the suspect and after a short foot chase, one of the officers fired several shots, striking the suspect.

Officers immediately began first aid until Lifecare EMS transported him to Mercy Hospital of Lorain.

According to police, the suspect is in stable condition and is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

His name is not being released, but police said he faces multiple charges, including aggravated robbery.

No officers were injured.

Lorain police contacted Elyria police to investigate.
