Charges laid after man critically injured in attack in Wellington

A man has been charged after another man was found critically injured in Wellington in the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to police, emergency crews were called to Courtenay Pl, in front of the old Reading Cinema, at around 3.20am.

A 21-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

A 29-year-old man was arrested following the incident.

He is due to appear in Wellington District Court today and be charged with assault by reckless disregard.

Police now want to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack – including two women who were sitting nearby at the time of the incident – or has knowledge of those involved.
