Give a child a chance today and support them at Action for Children

“I am currently looking after a little boy. I was taken into care at a young age and then adopted. It was always something I knew I would do.”

Working and caring for someone is not always easy, but it is certainly possible.

“I’m lucky that I work in a school, so I have all the holidays off and am at home. I explained to my work that I didn’t want to give up work, but I really wanted to be a foster family. They were very supportive and I was given some time off for whatever I needed.

My foster child goes to breakfast club in the morning and then I finish 10 minutes before him so I can pick him up when he’s ready.”

Ann-Marie did extensive research when she decided to become a foster family and found Action for Children was the best fit for her.

“When I was looking for a foster home, I searched for some organizations online and attended some seminars where I found out what their values are and what they stand for. I attended a workshop online with Martine and Rhian from Action for Children. Everything they said was exactly what I wanted from a care provider. I liked that even though they were part of a national children’s charity, they were a small, local team and very personal, they knew all the children and I thought that was important.

She would “absolutely recommend” placement with Action for Children and says she “always feels supported” there.

“Since I’ve been with them, I’ve had other friends who are also foster kids and they’ve since transitioned into the service as well. The staff are really, really supportive of both the family and our foster child. If so, then.” If there are problems, a bonding clinic will be set up and we will meet as a family to discuss the problem.”

Ann-Marie loves nursing and loves being able to give someone the chance that was once given to her.

“The best thing about nursing for me is that I can give someone a chance to feel safe and secure and have everything they deserve in life.”
