Calcutta: Citizen volunteer sexually abused by sub-inspector at police station; Probe running

A woman volunteer with the Kolkata Police has accused a sub-inspector of sexually assaulting her at Park Street police station, which police officials said led to the initiation of a police investigation. According to reports, the incident took place on October 5 around 1:10 am when the accused sub-inspector called the volunteer to the toilet on the fourth floor of the station.

“On the pretext of giving her clothes as gifts for Durga Puja, the accused police officer allegedly molested her. We are examining their complaint,” the official told PTI.

According to officials, the woman had been a volunteer at the Park Street Police Station since her appointment in 2017. She told reporters that she lodged her allegations at the Kolkata Police Headquarters in Lalbazar and the South Kolkata Deputy Commissioner’s Office after officials at the Park Street police station refused to accept her complaint.
