Johnson County sixth-grader dies in side-by-side crash | News










BUNCOMBE, IL – A sixth-grader at Buncombe Elementary School, Brayden Ames, died in a two-person accident on Sunday afternoon, October 6th.

Jamie Kerley, superintendent of Buncombe Consolidated School District #43, said, “It is with heavy hearts that we share devastating news from our Buncombe community. On Sunday afternoon, three Buncombe children were involved in a tragic accident next to each other.” Unfortunately, one of these children died, while the other two were treated for their injuries and have since been released to their families.

Brayden Ames’ mother, Ambyer Ames, is one of the 5th/6th grade teachers. Primary school class.

“As a school and community, we are deeply devastated by this loss. We ask that you keep the Ames family, the two other students recovering, and our entire Buncombe, Cypress, Vienna and Johnson County communities in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time,” Kerley said.

Brayden represented the Buncombe/Cypress Cats as a baseball, cross country, basketball and track team player.

Buncombe Elementary School will have classes and support students and staff on Monday, October 7th.

“As we remember Brayden, we want to hold on to the joy and kindness he brought to so many. His memory will live on in the hearts of his friends, teachers and the entire Buncombe community,” the superintendent said.
