At least three spectators die at Indian Air Force show in Chennai

At least three people died from suspected heat stroke IndiaPolice officials said it happened on Sunday at an Indian Air Force show in the southern city of Chennai that was attended by about 1.5 million people.

The air show to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the Air Force was organized at Marina Beach – one of the longest beaches in the world – on a day when the maximum temperature reached 35 degrees Celsius (95 degrees Fahrenheit), according to the weather agency.

“Two people died while attending the air show, mainly due to dehydration. They fainted due to the heat and then died,” R. Alagu, a senior police official in Chennai’s Triplicane area, said over the phone.

T. Vivekanandan, another police officer in Mylapore city, said a third person died “due to the heat.”

Chandramohan, a software engineer who attended the event and uses only one name, said that despite the “hot and humid” weather, there was no water supply at the event and he saw people fainting due to lack of air circulation and dehydration.
