2024 Week 7 12-Team College Football Playoff Rankings Prediction

2024 Week 7 12-Team College Football Playoff Rankings Prediction

Amid the bye week for No. 2 Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian, the predictions for the 12 teams in the College Football Playoff descended into near chaos in Week 6 of the 2024 season. Week 6 was by far the craziest week of surprises we’ve had on a weekend in a long time.

The highlight of the numerous upsets we saw across the college football landscape last weekend was the Vanderbilt Commodores pulling off their first upset on October 5th at home against an AP No. 1 opponent against the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide experienced at all. Vanderbilt fans tore out the field goal posts at their home stadium and threw them into the river in Nashville to celebrate this weekend’s historic win over the Tide.

Other ranked teams that fell to unranked opponents this past weekend included the No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers, No. 10 Michigan Wolverines, No. 11 USC Trojans and No. 22 Louisville Cardinals. Tennessee was shockingly upset on the road by an Arkansas Razorbacks possession in Fayetteville.

Michigan and USC were also heavily favored teams that fell to unranked Big Ten opponents in Week 6.

Here’s a look at the updated 12-team College Football Playoff predictions after a shocking weekend of upsets in Week 6.

October 5’s big week of surprises across the college football landscape and a handful of near-surprises for top-ranked teams resulted in two teams falling out of the top 12 entirely this week. The Miami Hurricanes no longer hold the projected spot for ACC champions after two near-upsets against unranked ACC opponents, the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Cal Golden Bears, in the last two weeks.

USC was also left out of the playoff predictions this week after faltering in Big Ten play against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

After being upset on the road by Vandy, Alabama is the biggest loser in this week’s playoff predictions. The Tide and first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer were tied for first in the playoff rankings last week.

One team jumped back into the playoff predictions this week, the No. 15 Texas A&M Aggies, after dominating the No. 9 Mizzou Tigers in College Station.

The No. 18 Indiana Hoosiers are making their first playoff appearance this season after picking up a convincing double-digit road win over the Northwestern Wildcats in Week 6.

Texas is back at the top in this week’s rankings. The Longhorns and the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes are the only two teams with a better than 90 percent chance of making the playoffs this season (according to ESPN’s Allstate Playoff Predictor).

The three underdog teams awaiting this week’s playoff predictions are the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Ole Miss Rebels and Miami (in order from top to bottom).
