TBI special agents investigate officer-involved shooting in Tipton County – TBINewsroom.com

At the request of 25th Judicial District Attorney General Mark Davidson, TBI special agents are investigating the circumstances leading to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Sunday evening in Tipton County.

Preliminary information indicates that a deputy with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an individual threatening residents of a home on Fleetwood Drive in Millington with a firearm. When the deputy arrived at the scene, he encountered Logan Kilpatrick (DOB 11/16/2005) with a gun. Both the subject and the deputy fired shots, causing Kilpatrick to die at the scene. The deputy was not injured in the incident.

At this time, this investigation is still active and ongoing. TBI agents are working to independently investigate the series of events that led to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, the results of the investigation are presented to the district attorney for further review and review. The TBI acts solely as an expert witness in its cases and does not determine whether an officer’s actions in such matters were justified. That decision rests with the district attorney, who requests TBI involvement.

The TBI does not identify officers involved in incidents of this nature and instead refers questions of this nature to the appropriate department, which may respond at its discretion.

All available updates on this investigation will be posted online at TBINewsroom.com.
