Daryl Dixon The Book of Carol’s Violent Episode 2 Detour

[This story contains spoilers from The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol season two, episode two.]

When The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol When producer and writer David Zabel sat down with the rest of the team to start the second season, six words immediately came to mind: “We still have a lot to do.”

Since two of the six episodes of the second season have now been released, the title heroes have yet to meet in person. Anyone who is impatient has to blame air travel in the zombie apocalypse. As Zabel and the writers began refining the story to take Carol (Melissa McBride) from Maine to France, it became clear that she would need at least one major detour along the way.

Enter: Greenland. In this week’s second episode, Carol’s journey to find Daryl (Norman Reedus) takes the non-villain on a side quest of sorts, stopping off in Greenland for fuel. Carol and her new buddy/pilot Ash (Manish Dayal) are immediately overrun by oversized field zombies.

“It started with me,” says Zabel The Hollywood Reporter. “We didn’t want Carol to just come to France and make things too easy for herself. And we knew that the plane really couldn’t fly straight. It had to stop somewhere. So we started talking about Greenland and who would be in Greenland? If we found someone else in Greenland, would that be the case? What would the hikers be like? We talked a lot about the wanderers, the swampy wanderers, and then we talked about who would be there and how would that make for an interesting story?”

Zabel’s answer to the last question: Introduce two ecologists who want to save humanity in their own way. The scientists make their debut as heroes and save Carol and Ash from certain death in the Maw of the Swampwalkers. However, this creature The walking deadThese Greenlanders have an ulterior motive: they want to kidnap Ash, reproduce with him and slowly repopulate humanity. Neither Carol nor Ash are particularly enthusiastic about the idea and the two scientists end up dying – one of them is killed by the other, the second by Ash.

“We had the idea that two scientists could have survived alone in their station,” says Zabel. “After the apocalypse, they managed to continue living there. We managed to spin a good story out of it. I really love this. In another world we would have spent more time in Greenland, but we only had six episodes.”

According to Zabel, the episode order is for Daryl Dixon came with advantages and disadvantages. It allowed for a tight, propulsive narrative, but also meant that a few different story ideas were left open.

“It was really the hardest thing,” he says. “You end up having to put a lot aside, even though you really wanted to explore something. We have no shortage of story here. We just don’t have enough real estate.”

Naturally, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol There are only four episodes left in the second season, but the third season is already in production. Additionally, the show will change location as production has moved to Spain. In other words, Daryl and Carol (or at least their show) are on the road – which means another stop in Greenland could be on the cards one day… and if not Greenland, then certainly somewhere other than France and Spain.

“We considered other locations,” Zabel says, teasing other locations The walking dead I almost went to Greenland instead of Greenland this week. “There are a few other options. You never know.”
