Israel and Hezbollah exchange information again on the first anniversary of the Hamas attack

Israel and Hezbollah exchanged fire again ahead of the first anniversary of the Hamas attack that sparked a war in Gaza and further escalated tensions in the Middle East.

Here are the key points about tensions in the Middle East:

  1. Israel continued airstrikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Sunday as part of its campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon, where the Iran-backed group is based.
  2. The Israeli military said it “attacked Hezbollah terrorist targets and weapons depots in Beirut.” It also said Israeli warplanes had attacked targets at Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut.
  3. Hezbollah said it hit a military base south of Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city, with “Fadi 1” rockets. Israeli media reported that ten people were injured in the north of the country.
  4. At least 26 people were killed in the Gaza Strip on Sunday when Israeli airstrikes hit a mosque and a school housing displaced people. Israel said it carried out “precise strikes against Hamas terrorists.”
  5. Israel and Hezbollah began fighting across the Lebanese border after war broke out in Gaza when Hamas, a Hezbollah ally that is also backed by Iran, attacked Israeli cities on October 7 last year.
  6. Hamas members killed about 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages. The Israeli retaliatory strike has since killed more than 41,000 people, most of them civilians.
  7. In Lebanon, more than 2,000 people were also killed in fighting that lasted almost a year.
  8. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed victory on Sunday, saying his country’s military had “completely changed reality” in the year since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.
  9. Netanyahu told troops that Israel would “win” as they fought in Gaza and Lebanon.
  10. Tel Aviv could also attack its regional foe Iran, which fired more than 180 rockets into Israel in response to the Israeli killings of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.
