Raiders QB drama, rising Broncos, Chiefs on MNF

Raiders QB drama, rising Broncos, Chiefs on MNF

The Los Angeles Chargers didn’t see much change in the AFC West in Week 5 while they were sitting on a bye.

While Jim Harbaugh probably wishes his debut had gone better than 2-2, the chance for Justin Herbert, Joe Alt, Rashawn Slater and a handful of other names to heal from injuries was welcome.

And the rankings – and events elsewhere in the division – aren’t too bad. A quick overview to say goodbye to the week:

Given the rebuild and quarterback names, it’s no big surprise that the Raiders are experiencing a downturn. Gardner Minshew made his fifth straight start but was sent off in the third quarter of a 34-18 loss to Denver. Now, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce has no idea whether Minshew or Aidan O’Connell will start next week.

It’s a little surprising to see the Broncos resurgent with three straight wins, the first two being impressive road wins over the Bucs and Jets. Rookie passer Bo Nix threw for just two scores in the win over the Raiders, while running back Javonte Williams averaged 4.7 yards per carry. The Chargers will have their hands full next weekend in Denver.

Don’t forget, the Chiefs close out Week 5 by hosting New Orleans on Monday night. Given the rankings and the fact that Patrick Mahomes and Co. play on an NFC team, this is not the case The important. But the Saints are a troublesome 2-2 team with great wins against teams like Dallas, so who knows? The Chargers get another shot at the Chiefs in Week 14 after losing to them by seven points in Week 4.
