The fire in Old Montreal raises questions after a tragic loss

In the early morning of October 4, 2024, a fire ravaged a century-old building at the intersection of Notre-Dame and Bonsecours streets, claiming two lives. The victims, who were 43-year-old Léonor Geraudie and her seven-year-old daughter Vérane Reynaud-Geraudie, were French nationals who were staying at the property. Her tragic death has caused great concern about public safety and raised questions about the circumstances of the devastating fire.

What was once just historic architecture became a scene of horror as firefighters battled the flames for hours, responding to what was described as a five-alarm blaze. Distinguished by its three floors and rich history, the building housed both a restaurant on the ground floor and accommodation above.
