According to police, the victim, a native of Jaggaiahpet in NTR district and a third-year student in a private college in Guntur district, had befriended a barber shop employee in the city a few months ago.

As the couple was returning from the bus stand in Guntur on a two-wheeler early in the morning on October 4, they spotted police personnel patrolling near the Kothapet Lord Shiva Temple and decided to take an alternative route, one said Report from The new Indian Express.

An unknown person who identified himself as a police officer followed them and stopped them. He threatened the couple and persuaded the girl to accompany him on his two-wheeler and promised to drop her at her hostel. The girl’s friend tried to follow her, but halfway there they ran out of fuel.

The suspect took the girl to a remote area near Butchaiah Thota water tank where he allegedly attacked her before fleeing. The victim reported the incident to Kothapet police, who have now registered a case. Authorities have reportedly identified the suspect, taken him into custody and are questioning him as part of the ongoing investigation, sources said The new Indian Express Report.
