Southern Miss suffered a narrow loss to Kentucky in the first game of the 2024 season, but would secure a 35-10 win over Southeastern Louisiana the next week. The next two games were lost 49-24 to South Florida and 44-7 to Jacksonville State.

In the Louisiana game, the Eagles trailed 17-13 at halftime and were unable to score from then on in a 23-13 loss. Tate Rodemaker had 140 passing yards. Rodrigues Clark (61 yards) and Kenyon Clay (10 yards; two touchdowns) led the running game in the loss.

LA-Monroe Warhawks betting preview

The Warhawks posted multiple wins in their first two games against Jackson State (30-14) and UAB (32-6). LA-Monroe’s first loss of the 2024 season came against Texas 51-3, but the next week they beat Troy 13-9.

The Warhawks took on James Madison last weekend. In this case, LA-Monroe outscored the Dukes 7-6 in the final quarter to secure the win 21-19. QB Aidan Armenta recorded 147 yards passing, a touchdown and an interception, while Ahmad Hardy rushed 14 times for 82 yards and a score.

LA-Monroe vs Southern Miss Prediction

I’m going with LA-Monroe. The Warhawks were down early last weekend against James Madison, but bounced back and ultimately picked up the win. However, there is a lot to improve. LA-Monroe had a lukewarm 257 total yards (147 passes) with 15 first downs, eight penalties and two turnovers in their win.

As for Southern Miss, they had a pretty tough offensive game in their last loss to Louisiana. The Eagles totaled just 177 yards (140 passes), 4.4 yards per play, eight first downs, 18:10 time of possession and 1 of 8 on third-down attempts. Southern Miss needs a big opportunity this weekend and I don’t think they’ll get enough.
