Lea Thompson had to “warm up” on Back to the Future with Michael J. Fox after Eric Stoltz was fired

Thompson also discussed the “separation between movie stars and television stars” that initially existed between them.

Lea Thompson had to work out some kinks before she could develop chemistry with Michael J. Fox Back to the future shoot.

When asked if she “hit it off right away” with Fox, Steve Kmetko responded Still here Hollywood On the podcast, Thompson responded, “Probably not, because I was friends with Eric Stoltz, who had just been fired.” Although Thompson had not yet worked with Fox, she explained, “I did a movie called The wild life” with Stoltz before Back to the future“And so he was a friend of mine. Back to the future Director Robert Zemeckis stated in 2015 that while Fox was his first choice for Marty McFly, Fox was unavailable due to scheduling conflicts, leading to the casting of Stoltz. “Eric is a really good actor and I made the decision to put him in the film, but it turned out that his instincts and the style of comedy played a role [of] “The movie we made didn’t really fit,” Zemeckis explained.

When Fox became available, Stoltz was fired and Fox was hired. But for Thompson, it wasn’t that easy.

“I remember being particularly snooty because there was a big divide between movie stars and TV stars at that point,” she added. “I remember thinking, ‘He’s just a TV star and I’m a movie star – I was there Jaws 3D.’ I think it took me a while to get used to him.

Thompson and Fox got along great in the end, which can be proven by more than just revisiting their winning dynamic Back to the futurebut the number of meetings they have attended together over the years.

“It was so funny and so much fun to act with,” Thompson recalled, explaining that she had “already done a few scenes with Eric, and then I did them with Michael, so I could see that they were completely different scenes.”

“You’re a genius when it comes to physical comedy. I remember just watching you and trying to learn,” Thompson told Fox in 2010 Weekly entertainmentReview of the film on its 25th anniversary. Fox told Thompson the same thing, recalling “our scene together, that bedroom scene was just great. You were so great at that. All the stumbling around I did was a direct response to the pressure she was putting on me with her eyes.” The intensity she was doing was so great.

Both Somehow wonderful And Back to the future were hits for Thompson, and she remains close with her two co-stars.
