Man dead after serious fall in Zion National Park

ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah, October 6, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – A man canyoneering in Zion National Park on Saturday died after an accidental fall near Heaps Canyon.

The incident was reported around 6 p.m. The fall height was estimated at 200 feet.

A statement from Zion National Park said after the fall was reported: “The Zion National Park Technical Search and Rescue Team and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and provided emergency medical care.

“The patient was transported by a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter to nearby Watchman Campground, where he received additional assistance from Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue and Intermountain Life Flight.

“He was pronounced dead before he could be airlifted to hospital.”

The name of the deceased is being withheld until his next of kin have been notified, the park’s statement said.
