Fatal pedestrian-motor vehicle accident early Sunday morning in Albany

Albany police say they are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Krumkill Road early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the scene in the area of ​​Bender Avenue and Krumkill Road around 6:55 a.m. for a report of a person being struck by a vehicle.

Police located 50-year-old Jason Steinberg of Herkimer with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after authorities arrived.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, police added.

According to Albany Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was walking on the sidewalk when the driver of the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and drove onto the sidewalk, striking the victim.

Officials say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
