Santa Monica police officer stabbed in unprovoked attack

A Santa Monica police officer was violently attacked and suffered multiple stab wounds Saturday by a man who unexpectedly approached him outside the police station. This shocking event occurred around 5:21 p.m. on Olympic Drive, right outside the front door of the Santa Monica Police Department.

According to police reports, the officer was engaged in a conversation with a resident about an ongoing case when the attacker abruptly interrupted. Santa Monica Police Chief Ramon Batista vividly described the scene during a news conference, noting how the suspect “pulled a large knife from his clothing and attacked and stabbed the officer.” The attacker was roughly identified as being around 30 years old.
