Westbrook man charged with sexual assault

WESTBROOK – Following an extensive investigation by the Westbrook Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, an arrest warrant has been issued for 19-year-old Matthew Chapin on multiple charges of sexual assault.

Chapin faces two counts of aggravated sexual assault, unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching.

He turned himself in to Westbrook police on Wednesday and was subsequently taken to the Cumberland County Jail.

The Westbrook Police Department has not released any further details about the circumstances that led to the charges.

The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.

The date of Chapin’s arraignment has not been announced and it is unclear whether he has received legal representation to respond to the allegations.
