‘Absolutely disgusting’: Harris campaign spends time meeting celebrities and big donors

Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign appears to have focused on fundraising and celebrity meetings, raising millions with the help of Hollywood and big donors.

Support for Vice President Kamala Harris skyrocketed after President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid on July 21 and endorsed her. Donors who had withheld funds under Biden and celebrities who questioned his mental fitness quickly rallied around Harris, dramatically boosting her image.

Less than a day after Biden’s departure, the Democracy Alliance — a group of left-leaning donors that has raised over $2 billion for liberal causes — endorsed Harris. In her first official month as a candidate, Harris’ campaign brought in $361 million in August, more than double what former President Donald Trump raised in the same month.

Harris made her first appearance in the Los Angeles area since announcing her campaign on Sunday, hosting a fundraiser with tickets starting at $500 per person and going up to $1 million, according to Deadline. With celebrities in attendance including Stevie Wonder, Demi Lovato, Jessica Alba and Lily Tomlin, the event, combined with another fundraiser in San Francisco, raised an estimated $55 million for the vice president’s campaign, Spectrum News 1 reported.

“We’re just watching the same old, tired show from the same old, tired script,” Harris said at the fundraiser in Los Angeles, the outlet reported.

Former Obama fundraiser Allison Huynh told the Daily Caller News Foundation that Hollywood and Big Tech have long touted candidates as an “aspirational luxury ticket,” recalling how former President Barack Obama was “adopted” by the two major groups.

“They market their candidates, as I said, as desirable luxury items. I was interested in Obama because there were a lot of young people who supported him…he spoke to people who were new to politics or disagreed with the divisive nature of politics,” Huynh said. “But then Obama was quickly adopted by Oprah, by P. Diddy, Beverly Hills royalty, I think even by Harvey Weinstein, under the guise of social justice… Obama became a puppet of the Hollywood and tech elite.” I saw.”

Despite strong Hollywood support for Harris, Trump received support from celebrities such as Kid Rock, Zachary Levi, Dennis Quaid and billionaire Elon Musk. A pro-Trump fundraiser in Silicon Valley raised an estimated $12 million, exceeding the amount expected by the typical left-wing circle, according to David Sacks, co-founder of Craft Ventures.

Since the first presidential debate against Trump on September 10, Harris has made campaign appearances in North Carolina, Wisconsin and Georgia, conducting just four brief interviews with 6ABC Philadelphia Action News, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle Meeting with celebrity Oprah Winfrey, which was attended virtually by celebrities such as Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Stiller and Chris Rock.

Former Democratic fundraiser Evan Barker spoke to the DCNF about the apparent abandonment of Harris’ strategy of talking to the rich and famous instead of making a more concerted effort to spend time with regular voters.

“You know, I think what was really eye-opening – I’m sure you saw the Oprah Winfrey rally… That was just absolutely disgusting to me. I just saw a bunch of celebrities zoom in from their mansions or hotel suites and basically just talk about the identity of Kamala Harris or just spew these very general platitudes about hope and joy and integrity without the actual status “To really discuss things like the economy and how working Americans are doing really, really badly right now,” Barker said.

Huynh also criticized Harris’ interviews, calling the “ambitious” language an “illusory game” designed to “normalize” her to voters.

“I think Harris is a puppet because we never really see her speak on her own. What are their passions? She speaks like a corporate drone. And that language, when we examine it, is very ambitious. Check out her interview with Oprah: “Okay, hello Oprah… oh, Oprah, she’s my best friend,” Huynh told DCNF.

“They are aspirations, dreams. “I was a middle class kid, I had a lawn.” Sensitive, soulful – “This is my childhood.” I mean, the country is in crisis and she decides to just make herself comfortable and spend time with her friend with Oprah – Tea time – to spend on national television,” Huynh said. “I believe it is psycho-ops, a game of illusion, to normalize Kamala and not the radical politics and politicians she works with – who are basically socialists.”

While Harris and her running mate, Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, began their bus tour of key swing states in August, fundraisers for Hollywood’s elite have been taking place since late July. On July 29, “White Dudes for Harris” organized a fundraiser for the then newly elected presidential candidate, attended by major Hollywood stars such as Jeff Bridges, Bradley Whitford and Josh Gad, as well as politicians.

According to Reuters, despite Harris’ absence, the Zoom call event raised an estimated $4 million and over 190,000 tuned in to listen to the speakers. Recently, a fundraiser in Los Angeles led by former President Barack Obama and attended by celebrities such as Rob Reiner, Conan O’Brien and Jennifer Coolidge raised over $4 million for Harris’ Victory Fund, although Harris was also not in attendance , Deadline reported.

“Democrats like to say: With all this inflation, it’s okay because wages have gone up. Well, there’s a whole subset of people, like my grandmother, whose wages haven’t gone up and they’ve just really, really gone up. “They’re really struggling to buy groceries and fill up their gas tank,” Barker explained.

Polls have consistently shown that voters’ top concerns are the economy, inflation and immigration – all of which Harris addressed vague answers or confronted Game out of both sides from the altar for their proposed policies and rethinking.

Although inflation eased in June and prices for food, gas and other goods fell, two-thirds of middle-income families are reported to have fallen behind on the cost of living, according to a July survey by insurance company Primerica. Of the 1,017 adults surveyed by the insurance company, 58% rated their community’s economic situation as “not good” or “poor.” Additionally, 30% reported an increase in credit card debt, and 80% said their household cooked more meals at home over the past year instead of eating out or ordering takeout, according to Primerica.

A August survey by The Economist/YouGov found that 24% of 1,567 respondents cited inflation as the main problem, followed by 13% who cited jobs and the economy, and 12% who pointed to immigration. Barker shared how her mother and 86-year-old grandmother in Missouri have struggled in recent years. She noted that her mother had a “very difficult time getting back on her feet” after losing her job during the COVID-19 crisis, while her grandmother struggled to get basic necessities like gas and groceries on her Social Security check afford.

“So seeing people like Oprah Winfrey, you know, and I know she has humble beginnings, right? She’s a long way from that at this point,” Barker continued. “And Chris Rock joking about giving donations to Kamala Harris back when she was running for district attorney to get out of a traffic ticket was just an incredible insult to people who are struggling right now.”

The Harris campaign did not respond to DCNF’s request for comment.
