Teen convicted of shooting in 2021 faces sentencing on Monday

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The teenager convicted in the 2021 shooting death of Chavan Scruggs is expected to hear his sentence on Monday.

King Franklin was found guilty of aggravated murder back in June.

Franklin was scheduled to be sentenced July 31.

This was postponed because Judge Charles Graddick resigned due to a potential conflict of interest related to his having done legal work for the city of Mobile while presiding over criminal cases.

According to court records, Judge Spiro Cheriogotis will preside over Monday’s sentencing hearing.

Franklin faces 25 years to life in prison.
