NFL Week 5 odds, picks, best bets on Sunday

Seattle snapped its three-game winning streak against Detroit last week in a hard-fought road game between two of the NFC’s better teams.

The Seahawks continued to look strong on offense, accumulating 516 total yards. However, due to a long list of inactive players, the defense struggled, giving up 42 points with six touchdowns to five different players.

Meanwhile, the underdog Giants are without one of their top offensive producers, and another is questionable.

Here’s our preview of Sunday’s Giants vs. Seahawks game (4:25 p.m. ET, CBS) with odds, a prediction and a pick.

Giants vs Seahawks prediction

Lumen Field in Seattle is one of the toughest venues and environments for away teams to win at. So the Giants have their hands full as they also have to cross three time zones for this game.

They also face a team with the top-rated rushing offense, according to Pro Football Focus. This is a bad matchup for the Giants, who rank 20th in run defense and allow the ninth-most yards per rush attempt in the NFL.

The G-Men’s saving grace is their red zone defense, which has allowed opponents to score touchdowns on just 25% of their trips over the last three weeks (second in the NFL).

However, Seattle has been particularly adept at scoring in the red zone at home, hitting 67% of the time (No. 7 in the NFL). Last week against Detroit, the Seahawks scored on three of their four outings inside the red zone (INT), with another touchdown coming on a run by Kenneth Walker just outside the Lions’ 20.

Making matters worse for the Giants is that the Seahawks are expected to bring back several key defensive players who were missing in last week’s loss.

LB Jerome Baker, DL Leonard Williams, OLBs Boye Mafe and Uchenna Nwosu, and first-rounder DT Byron Murphy II all missed Seattle’s Monday Night Football matchup against Detroit.

Baker, Williams and Nwosu have a good chance of returning this week, giving Seattle a better chance to fill the Giants’ running game that was exposed in Week 4 against Dallas.

Devin Singletary only managed 24 yards on 14 carries (average 1.7 yards).

It could be difficult for the Giants to gain significant yards on the ground or through the air.

The Seahawks rank first in QB pressure, meaning Daniel Jones could be on the run throughout the game.

Historically, Jones has been poor at throwing under pressure and currently boasts the 24th-best quarterback rating and 25th-best completion percentage in the league, fueled by the incredible play of rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers in was increased in the first four games.

However, Nabers (concussion protocol) was ruled out for Sunday’s game, a major blow to an already struggling offense.

Singletary, who is dealing with groin problems, is questionable whether he will be able to play.

Choice between Giants and Seahawks

Without Nabers and possibly Singletary against a Seahawks defense that is getting healthy again, the Giants will likely have trouble moving the ball on offense.

This could be a blast for the home team.

Pick: Seahawks -6.5 (-120, bet365)
