The Pacific Airshow is back, so to speak, as dense fog shuts down planes in Huntington Beach

The Pacific Air Show is back in Huntington Beach this weekend, although overcast conditions on Friday and Saturday meant attendees could hear more than see the show.

The weather today could be more favorable than yesterday, but the fog remained until Sunday morning. The National Weather Service issued a dense fog warning until 9 a.m. Sunday.

According to the NWS, today’s forecast is similar to conditions that postponed many launches yesterday. The current forecast includes forecasts for “low clouds and fog clinging to beaches into the afternoon” as well as a 50-60 percent chance of reduced visibility along the coast, although conditions appear to be marginally better today.

The three-day lineup of jets from the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Marine Corps and California Air National Guard, among others, won’t sit still to say the least, so make sure your kids and pets are prepared.

You may have already heard of the midweek flyovers, but the sky show will officially take place Friday through Sunday from about 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Here’s what you need to know:

What to expect

Airshow officials said in a statement that they are fulfilling their commitment to provide a “bigger and better” experience every year.

The organizers, Code Four, will continue to operate the air show Conditions which were released earlier this year. The city of Huntington Beach signed a 10-year exclusive contract, agreeing to pay organizers up to $7 million and waive security and police fees.

In the fair’s eighth year, aircraft will be able to land at a temporary landing pad on the beach. So don’t be surprised if you see wings in the sand.

Tickets range from $30 for general admission to $4,500 for a four-day camping experience. Friday and Saturday ticket holders will also be able to use their tickets on Sunday due to weather, but organizers have not yet made a public announcement about a possible refund for people unable to attend on Sunday and for three-day ticket holders.

Here’s how to prepare

Organizers of the event have acknowledged that it will be loud. Make sure you have earplugs or noise-canceling headphones on hand – for all ages.

The city of Huntington Beach sent a telephone alert to people living in the area, asking them to prepare shelters for those who might be “disturbed” by the noise.

So if your family members or four-legged friends are having a hard time during events like the Fourth of July, keep an eye on them throughout the weekend.

“While the Pacific Airshow is an exciting event for the community, it is important to remember that the loud noise and low-flying jets can be distressing to pets,” Justin Ward of Reedy Creek Vet said in a statement from the airshow shared statement.

Consider creating a quiet, comfortable space for your pets or people to hang out. Especially one with small windows and lots of furniture to muffle the noise.

Music, movies, and white noise machines can also help drown out some of the noise.

Stay indoors during peak flight times if you can, or get your exercise and errands done early before the air show begins.

Officials are also asking people not to call 911 unless there is a life-threatening emergency.
