Injury scare for India as skipper Harmanpreet Kaur leaves hand off neck in Pakistan game | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: India secured their first points in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Pakistan, but the victory was marred by an injury to captain Harmanpreet Kaur in the final moments of the chase, which is likely to worry the Indian team management.
After a loss to New Zealand in the tournament opener, India bounced back with a disciplined bowling performance to restrict Pakistan to 105/8 in Dubai.

Harmanpreet led the chase from the front until the penultimate end when she left the field holding her neck after trying to make a quick return to the crease.
Nida Dar played a full, long ball outside the goal area which Harmanpreet missed as she tried to hit it offside, resulting in her moving out of the goal area. In her attempt to return, she apparently injured her neck.

Harmanpreet, who was being looked after by the physiotherapist, decided to leave the field even though India were on the verge of victory and only needed two runs.
With just seven balls remaining and six wickets in hand, Sajana Sajeevan stepped up to the crease. She wasted no time, hitting a boundary on the only delivery she faced, securing victory for India.

After the game, Smriti Mandhana refrained from commenting on the nature of Harmanpreet’s injury but expressed optimism and stated that she believes Harmanpreet will be fine.
“It’s too early to say anything, the doctors are checking it. “Hopefully she’s okay,” she said.
