Alabama State is investigating after shots were fired into the air on campus

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Alabama State University Department of Public Safety is investigating after receiving multiple reports of shots fired on campus Saturday during homecoming festivities.

An ASU spokesman said the shooting was reported in the densely populated area of ​​campus, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement officers in that area.

Investigators confirmed shots were fired into the air. The university later determined that there was “no active shooter on campus at this time” but urged students, faculty and staff to seek a safe location “for the remainder of the evening.”

ASU said its officers are actively monitoring the area to ensure the safety of the campus community and are encouraging vigilance and reporting any suspicious activity to the ASU Department of Public Safety at (334) 229-4400.

No injuries or arrests were reported.
